Breif Description:
The Helen Gee Chin Scholarship Foundation was founded on March 7, 2011, to honor the memory of Helen Gee Chin, wife of Sifu Chin of Calvin Chin’s Martial Arts Academy, Inc. Simo was the administrator at CCMAA for 15 years and was involved with preserving the history and promoting the practice of traditional Chinese martial arts. She was beloved by her husband, the students of the Academy that she ran with him, and by the martial arts community as a whole. The Foundation is offering college scholarships to encourage academic achievement and motivate individuals to become serious students of the Chinese martial arts.

Elibibility:
- Students who plan to enroll full-time as an undergraduate at an accredited U.S. four-year college or university and meet the minimum eligibility requirements:
- U.S. citizenship or permanent residency
- Five or more years* of study in Chinese Martial Arts (Kung Fu, Wu Shu, or Tai Chi)
- A “B” average grade or better
Award Criteria:
• Martial arts achievement (e.g., tournament
medals*, contribution to the martial arts);
• Academic achievement;
• An essay explaining what the study of martial
arts has meant to the applicant; and
• Participation and leadership in community and
school activities, work experience, educational
Scholarship value/inclusions:
$2,500 for winners and other varying amounts for any Honorable Mentions
Application Instructions:
Application form
– Complete official transcript(s), including grading
scale, covering the last two years (from high school
and/or college).
– Essay describing how the study of martial arts has
fundamentally impacted your life. (500 words or less)
– A letter of recommendation from your current or
most recent Sifu, attesting to your years of study
and fitness for the scholarship
– Recommendation from one other appropriate
person (such as a teacher or counselor/advisor)
– For high school seniors: rank, GPA, and test score
information from school official (application
section 11) and copy of college acceptance letter
